California State Agencies and Resources:
California Department of Insurance - Offers tips and resources for finding an insurance agent.
Department of Managed Health Care (DMHC) - Oversees and regulates all managed health care (HMOs and related products) in the state of California. The DMHC Help Center can be contacted at (888) HMO -2219 and is a resource for Californians who are having difficulty resolving a problem with their health plan.
California Department of Health Services - Provides phone numbers and links to local health departments that often provide reduced cost clinical services to uninsured residents of California.
California Department of Insurance (CDI) - Regulates many types of insurance in California. Also assists consumers, aids in the licensing of insurance agents or brokers, and serves as a source of information on the laws that regulate the insurance industry. CDI is able to confirm that an agent or broker has a license and to research an insurer's performance. The complaint hotline is (800) 927 - HELP and offers help to consumers in resolving complaints against CDI-regulated insurance products.
Medi-Cal - California's state Medicaid program, providing health care coverage for low income families and individuals who lack other health insurance. General information can be reached at (888) 747 - 1222.
Rules Governing California's Small Group Health Insurance Market. California Workers' Compensation Resources:

California Commission on Health and Safety and Workers' Compensation - This joint labor-management body oversees the health and safety and workers' compensation systems in the state of California. This commission also recommends legislative or administrative modifications to improve their operation.
Workers' Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California - This independent, nonprofit association is made up of California workers' compensation insurance companies. The site contains a glossary, answers to frequently asked questions, and links to related sites. Contact is (888) 229 – 2472.

Bureau of Primary Health Care – Online directory available from this federal agency for clinics providing care for uninsured individuals nationwide. Includes other health clinic information relevant to your area. Contact them at (888) 275-4772.
